Lørenskog Upper Secondary School
Read about our different studies:
This is a school for students between 16 and 19 years (6 th Form College). In addition to our teenagers we have older students (adult courses). The school motto is: “Mangfold, Miljø og Muligheter” (The three M’s). Translated into English this will be ”Diversity, Environment and Opportunities”.
Diversity:
Our students constitute an average of youths here at Romerrike (the county in which the school is located). We have got approximately 350 male students and 350 female students, which makes the total number about 700. Here you are respected for whom you are, not for whom others might perceive you as. We have got room for everybody. Style, colour or nationality is of no importance to us. We accept everybody the way they are.
Environment:
Surveys among the students show that most students at Lorenskog upper secondary school feel well here (more than 80%). Most students are also well prepared for classes (59%); they bring their textbooks with them (89%), they participate actively in class (83%), and most students feel that their teachers are well prepared for class (88%).
It is important for everybody that the environment is safe and sound. Without such an environment; good learning is impossible. Some of our initiatives (to create a good environment) are: Student council, The Woodcock Prize (A poetry competition), Football tournament, Hockey competition, ‘Environment day’ (with cake baking competition, rebus, football- and basketball competition and so on) and a day in the mountains (= winter sports activity-day).
Opportunities:
Our teachers are highly qualified. We have new and modern facilities even though the school is approximately 30 years old. We have three computer labs and we have 30 laptops with Internet connection to be used in all subjects. A language laboratory is also at the students’ disposal.
You can choose from 12 different electives, including a subject where you can be a mentor for students in lower secondary school.
You can choose to study 3 different third languages (Norwegian as the first, English as the second): We offer German, French and Spanish (Italian has also been offered, but only as an elective).
The school is particularly interested in stimulating science subjects, and cooperates closely with teachers at lower secondary schools. This is partly to make the transition from lower to upper secondary school easier.
